Purpose-made soundtrack to a 1964 arthouse film which was created to this music rather than vice versa, this album, while not exactly for the faint of heart, remains one of Ayler's most interesting studio sessions and also captures arguably his best band at moment of particular creative freedom, even by free-jazz standards. A crucial and classic Ayler document.
